Record status

Individual type · partial

Single-piece mantel clock made of papier-mâché, in the form of a hand clasping a small clockface, set on a plinth with three steps, the whole painted in polychrome.

The three-step base raised on six guttae or small feet that are trapezoidal in shape, painted red and brown. It is painted in brown, with red veining and blue and blue-green spots of paint, the whole suggesting marbling. The base is surmounted by a left hand, painted in two shades of blue-green, clasping a doughnut painted in turquoise, lilac, pink and yellow. In the centre of this is a small gold clock face without numbers, ringed with two concentric, red circles.

Red hands are in the form of literal hands, with index fingers pointing to hours or minutes. A recess behind the clockface houses a small travelling clock.
