Period

c. 1825

This Regency-period bracket clock is constructed from rosewood and features extensive brass mounts. The clock is powered by a substantial six-pillar triple chain fusee movement with an anchor escapement, regulated by a heavy lenticular bob pendulum with a wide-jaw T-bar suspension.

It is a quarter-chiming timepiece, sounding the quarters on a graduated nest of eight bells and the hour on a larger ninth bell. The cream-painted 8-inch circular dial is convex, featuring Roman numerals, blued steel moon hands, and a strike/silent lever at the twelve o'clock position. The exterior is highly decorative, featuring a brass pineapple finial, a chamfered top, brass panel-fronted upstands, and recessed brass fillet-edged quadrant panels surrounding the dial.

The sides are adorned with foliate ring handles and brass fish-scale sound frets. The clock stands on a skirted base with stepped molding and ball feet. Measuring 57.5cm in height, the rear includes a glazed door. The backplate is geometrically engraved and signed "GRANT, Fleet Street, LONDON," a signature also found on the dial.
