Table clock or bracket clock of oak, veneered with brass and pewter marquetry on a ground of tortoiseshell over red foil, and with gilt bronze mounts. The case has an arched underside and curved sides.
It tapers toward the top and is crowned by a removable hood. The front of the case features a straight glazed door with an arched top that has broken corners, bordered by a tortoiseshell molded edge within which is a cast brass border with balusters and garlands. The engraved dial of white-colored metal is surrounded by four cast spandrels with female figures. In the lunette, a round plaque of white-colored metal, engraved with the sun, is flanked by cast spandrels with dolphins.
The dial is mounted on a brass plate with an engraved border, signed at the bottom center: IP KROESE AMSTERDAM. Beneath the dial is a wooden plaque covered with black fabric, in the center of which is an oval, gilded brass, ribboned medallion featuring Apollo (?) with bow and quiver, suspended from laurel swags. It is flanked by ornaments with the same dolphins found in the lunette, flower branches, and trumpet-blowing mermaids.
The case and the hood are inlaid on the front and sides with foliate and flower scrolls. The case rests on four brass feet with rocailles and leaves, and features bearded masks at the four upper corners. Richly decorated mounts run along the edges. The hood is surmounted by a gilt bronze boy. The clock has a pendulum movement, hour striking, and repeating train.
