Sandstone pedestal in the shape of an obelisk made for a sundial. The top surface is enclosed by garlands and contains an iron pin that protrudes 4.1 centimeters above the top. Next, slanted fluting, or gadrooning, tapers the pedestal. Depicted on the four facet sides, which widen towards the bottom, are four female figures personifying the four continents. This is followed once more by a border of gadrooning that tapers the pedestal, after which the base widens concavely. The pedestal has a square base. The sundial originates from Uithoorn and was previously in Waverveen. The accompanying copper sundial is missing. The Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, holds this object as BK-BFR-338; its record gives material recorded as copper (metal), sandstone; technique sculpting; measurements height 12 cm x width 142 cm x depth 77.5 cm. Description translated from the museum's Dutch catalogue text; details are those of this museum object, and how far it represents a wider type has not been independently verified.
