Period

c. 1690

Wall clock, veneered with ebony on an oak core. On the upwardly tapering backboard, capped by a pediment, the solid ebony brackets are mounted. They are designed as crouching, nude figures upon which the four Tuscan corner columns stand.

The columns support an entablature with a segmental pediment. The brass dial is set on an underlay of black cloth between cast brass cherubs as corner pieces and a festoon at the bottom. In an oval with a laurel wreath appears the pendulum bob depicting a bird perched on a fruit basket. Surmounting the bell is Atlas. Brass weights on cords. Marked on the dial: Jan Kopies, Westzanen. The sphere of Atlas is a later addition.
