Record status

Individual type · partial

Period

late 19th century

The central scene depicts two dignitaries seated face to face at the edge of a basin, flanked by two standing figures with crossed arms in a gesture of respect or waiting.

In the foreground are a hookah, cups, and vessels, suggesting a moment of conviviality or discussion. In the background, an architectural landscape punctuated by pavilions and stylized trees situates the scene in a palatial or princely setting. The green turban of the figure on the right, combined with the presence of a lion at his side, references the figure of ‘Alî in Persian iconography, often called “the Lion of God” (Asad Allâh).

This association gives the scene a symbolic dimension, blending courtly imagery with Shi’a religious references.
