post-1943
This is an original Soviet Russian Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd Class, identified as a Type 2, Variant 2, sub-variation 2. This award features a ten-pointed silver star base, which combines a five-pointed radiant star with a five-pointed enamel star.
The central motif is an applied gold hammer and sickle emblem. The badge includes a white enamel circular surround bearing the inscription "Otechestvennaya Voyna" and a small star. This "Type 2" variant is characterized by its screwback fastening system, introduced following the June 1943 decree, which mandated that orders be worn without suspension mounts. It includes a threaded post soldered to the center of the reverse and a round screwback nut measuring 33 mm in diameter.
The reverse shows two copper rivets that secure the central gold element, positioned at approximately 2 and 8 o'clock. The mint mark is located at the 6 o'clock position, with a hand-engraved serial number ("52767") positioned beneath it. The reverse exhibits a counter-relief pattern, consistent with this specific production batch.
