US Army Crossed Rifles Infantry Branch Insignia

DocumentedSupported by at least one credible specialist source.

Record status

Individual type · partial

Period

late 19th to early 20th century

The front of the piece prominently features the universally recognized emblem of the infantry: two meticulously detailed crossed rifles. The background behind the rifles exhibits a distinct, finely textured, pebbled pattern, a common and attractive characteristic of military insignia from this period.

The reverse side of the insignia includes a central attachment post, confirming its original purpose as a uniform accoutrement—most likely a collar disc or cap insignia—designed for secure fastening. This insignia would have been worn by an enlisted soldier of the U.S. Army Infantry branch, representing their fundamental role in America's conflicts and expansion during this period.
