These certificates stated that silver was on deposit in the Treasury payable to the bearer on demand, representing one of the final silver certificate series produced before redemption ended.

Historical context
Silver certificates originated following the Coinage Act of 1873, with one-dollar denominations authorized in 1886 and reduced to modern small-size currency beginning in 1929. By the mid-twentieth century, the 1935 series one-dollar certificates had advanced through the letter "H" before new printing processes initiated the 1957 series. These certificates formed an integral part of the circulating paper currency supply, carrying obligations payable in silver to the bearer on demand.
