Historical context
This binding is remarkable because of the signature present in its roundels, which reads Muhammad al-Zain (o al-Sayf). Very few bindings bear a signature, which usually is relegated in subsidiary areas, for example the corners of the cover, see two other bindings in the National Art Library, inv.no.366/2-1888 and 366/3-1888 which are both signed in the corners.
