Historical context

On the reverse side there is an image of the Piazza of St Peter's with part of its facade in perspective and the Papal palace behind. A angel with a trumpet appears in the sky and in the foreground there is a she-wolf with Romulus and Remus. The reverse is a reworking of the design by Giovanni Hamerani for the 1675 Jubilee Medal of Clement X (A.44 -1965). Benedict XIV was Pope from 1740 to 1758.
