This button card features twenty individual buttons produced from turned casein to create imitation shell effects. The buttons are mounted onto a light-coloured rectangular backing card arranged neatly in four horizontal rows, each containing five buttons. The designs across the rows display varied visual styles imitating shell, ranging from light translucent amber and cream tones to high-contrast patterns.

The second row features buttons patterned with swirling black and white marbling, while the third row contains buttons with mottled brown and cream markings. The fourth row displays buttons turned with concentric circular and hexagonal ring patterns in contrasting light and dark bands. The buttons are circular in profile, with recessed centres pierced by two or four sewing holes for attachment to clothing. The card was produced in Great Britain during the 1960s by the manufacturer John Templeton (Buttons) Ltd. It measures 30.4 centimetres in length and 20.4 centimetres in width, with the buttons having an average recorded diameter of 3.4 centimetres.
