This sample card displays sixteen plastic buttons arranged in sets. Four are made of brown thermoplastic moulded in imitation of leather-covered buttons, and four are rendered in turned casein or nylon with streaking designed to simulate horn, created for Arran knitwear. A third group consists of four white nylon buttons, two of which are shown mounted over a small swatch of textile. The final group comprises four square buttons of brown nylon featuring diagonal stripes in imitation of the Gucci logogram, three of which are finished with cold enamel.

The backing card is inscribed with design reference numbers including '3198', '3199', '3183', '3184', '3201', and '3200'. The mounting card measures 26.7 cm in length by 20.9 cm in width. The entire sample set was manufactured by John Templeton (Buttons) Ltd. in Great Britain during the 1980s using card, moulded plastic, and nylon.
