This object is a French globe clock on an accompanying wall bracket, dating to between 1700 and 1740. The piece is constructed of carved and gilded wood, combining sculpted sculptural figures with clockwork.
The upper section of the clock depicts Atlas supporting a large sphere or globe alongside a second figure, identified as probably Hercules, who holds a hammer and pointer directed toward the globe. The supporting bracket features a shelf backed by openwork carving comprising scrolls and leaf ornamentation. The front is upheld by two female terminal figures, with one holding a bunch of flowers and the other carrying a scythe. A carved figure of Time stands prominently positioned between these two terminal figures. The maker of the clock is unrecorded.
