During the Roman Imperial Period, the city of Koila in Thrace issued bronze coinage under the imperial authority. This piece dates to circa AD 244–249 and bears the portrait of Philippus iunior, known also as Philip II or Philip the Younger. Born Marcus Julius Severus Philippus, he reigned as Roman emperor from 247 to 249, ruling jointly under his father, Philip I.
