Historical context
Deultum, also known as Develtos, was an ancient city in Thrace situated at the mouth of the Sredetska reka on the west coast of Lake Mandrensko. This civic bronze coinage was struck under Philip the Arab, who reigned as Roman Emperor from 244 to 249 following the death of Gordian III. Philip governed the Roman Empire during the crisis of the third century until he was defeated and killed at Verona in 249.
