Historical context
Lysimachia, known in Greek as Λυσιμάχεια, was an important Hellenistic Greek town located on the north-western extremity of the Thracian Chersonese, the modern Gallipoli peninsula. Positioned where the peninsula joins the mainland near the bay of Melas, modern-day Gulf of Saros, the city issued civic coinage during the Hellenistic period, to which this bronze piece belongs.
