Historical context

Lysimachia, also known as Lysimacheia, was a major Hellenistic Greek town situated on the north-western extremity of the Thracian Chersonese, modern Gallipoli peninsula, where the peninsula joins the mainland in European Turkey. The city was located near the bay of Melas and the modern village of Bolayır. During the Hellenistic Period, it operated as a civic authority in Thrace, issuing municipal bronze coinages such as this issue dated to circa 260–255 BC.
