Reverse: River-god reclining left, resting right hand on prow and resting left arm on water-urn. Legend: ΠΛΩΤΕΙΝΟΠΟΛΕΙΤ. Historical context

Plotinopolis was an ancient city in Thrace founded by the Roman emperor Trajan and named after his wife, Pompeia Plotina. This civic bronze issue dates to c. AD 139–161, during the time when Marcus Aurelius served as heir and Caesar under his adoptive father, Emperor Antoninus Pius, prior to becoming Roman emperor himself in 161.
