Historical context

Develtos, also known as Deultum, was an ancient city situated in Thrace near Lake Mandrensko and modern Debelt. Gordian III reigned as Roman emperor from 238 to 244, having acceded at the age of 13 as a grandson of Gordian I. This civic bronze issue belongs to the local coinage struck at Deultum during his imperial reign.
