This five-unit bronze coin was issued under the authority of the city of Anchialos in Thrace during the Roman Imperial Period. It dates to AD 241–244, coinciding with the joint rule of Gordian III and his wife Tranquillina. Gordian III served as Roman emperor from 238 until c. February 244, having acceded as sole emperor at the age of 13. Furia Sabinia Tranquillina, daughter of the Praetorian Prefect Timesitheus, was Roman empress during this time.
