Historical context
Gordian III became Roman emperor in 238 at the age of 13, reigning until around February 244. During his rule, he married Furia Sabinia Tranquillina, daughter of the Praetorian Prefect Timesitheus, who served as Empress of Rome. This bronze five-unit denomination was struck in the Roman Imperial Period between AD 238 and 244 by the city of Anchialos, located in Thrace on the Black Sea coast.
