Legend: ΗΓ ϹΙΚΙΝΝΙΟV ΚΛΑΡΟV ΑVΓΟVϹΤΗϹ ΤΡΑΙΑΝΗϹ. Measured specimens give a mean weight of 17.57 g (mean of 4 recorded specimens) and a diameter of 28–30.8 mm (from 4 recorded specimens).

Historical context
Caracalla, born Lucius Septimius Bassianus and later called Marcus Aurelius Antoninus, was a member of the Severan dynasty and was proclaimed co-ruler by his father Septimius Severus in 198. He ruled as Roman emperor alongside his father until 211, and subsequently as sole ruler until 217. This civic bronze piece was struck between AD 202 and 204 at Augusta Traiana, an important Thracian city known earlier as Beroe and renamed Ulpia Augusta Traiana under Roman rule.
