Reverse: Two emperors (Septimius Severus and Caracalla) standing facing each other, handing over globe; each wearing toga; emperor on left bearded. Legend: ΟVΛΠΙΑϹ ΠΑVΤΑΛΙΑϹ. Historical context

Pautalia, situated in Thrace, was an ancient city that received the name Ulpia Pautalia under Emperor Trajan and minted its own civic coinage from the reign of Antoninus Pius to Caracalla. Caracalla ruled the Roman Empire from 198 to 217 AD, initially alongside his father, Septimius Severus, who elevated him to co-emperor in 198. The reverse of this bronze coin celebrates that joint reign, depicting the two togate rulers facing each other.
