Historical context

Sestos was an ancient Greek city situated in Thrace on the Thracian Chersonese peninsula. Positioned on the European shore of the Hellespont directly opposite the city of Abydos, it occupied a key strategic location along the maritime passage connecting the Aegean Sea to the Black Sea. During the Hellenistic Period, the city exercised its authority to issue civic bronze coinage.
