Historical context
This bronze coin was issued by the city authority of Hadrianopolis in Thrace, historically known also as Adrianople, during the Roman Imperial Period between AD 197 and 205. It was struck under Geta, the son of Emperor Septimius Severus. Born Publius Septimius Geta in 189, he ruled as Roman emperor alongside his father and brother from 209 until his murder in December 211.
