Historical context
Cromna, also written Kromna, was an ancient town situated on the Paphlagonian coast in modern Turkey, located 60 stadia east of Erythini and 90 west of Cytorus. Mentioned by Homer in the Iliad, the settlement was according to Stephanus of Byzantium named after Kromnos, the son of Lykaon. Although Amasra and Kurucaşile have been suggested as possible locations, modern scholars place Cromna near Tekeönü in Bartın Province. As an autonomous city, it produced its own coinage during the Classical Period.
