Historical context
Alopekonnesos was an Aeolian colony and ancient Greek city established on the western coast of Thrace, situated within the region of the Thracian Chersonesus. According to tradition, settlers founded the colony where an oracle directed them after encountering a fox with its cub. The city was a member of the Delian League and later allied with Athens during the Macedonian ascendancy. Struck as an autonomous civic issue, this small bronze denomination dates to the Hellenistic Period, circa 300–250 BC.
