Double unit in bronze struck at Philippopolis in Thrace under Elagabal, dated c. AD 218–222. Corpus Nummorum, the online type corpus of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, records it as CN type 889 (period: Roman Imperial Period; issuing authority type: city).

Obverse: Laureate head of Elagabalus, right. Legend: ΑVΤ Κ Μ ΑVΡ ΑΝΤΩΝΕΙΝΟϹ. Reverse: Nemesis-Aequitas standing left, holding scales and cubit-rule; at her feet, wheel. Legend: ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΠΟΛΕΙΤΩΝ ΝΕΩΚΟΡΩΝ. Measured specimens give a mean weight of 3.84 g (mean of 11 recorded specimens) and a diameter of 16.6–21.2 mm (from 5 recorded specimens). Historical context

This civic bronze double unit was issued at Philippopolis in Thrace during the reign of Elagabalus, who ruled as Roman emperor from 218 to 222. Originally from a prominent Syrian Arab family in Emesa and a relative of the Severan dynasty, Elagabalus became emperor at fourteen following an army revolt. Philippopolis was originally founded as a polis by Philip the Great, king of ancient Macedonia, in 342 BC.
