Record status

Individual type · partial

Folding fan is held by Amsterdam Museum (Netherlands). Description supplied by the holding institution: Folding fan with ivory carved and painted legs with a top of open woven linen or cotton. The top is painted with a depiction of a female figure and a sleeping boy on a sofa. On both sides of the sofa a caryatid. The figures are painted, special is that the faces are painted on an extra piece of paper. The clothing of the figures consists of gold-coloured sequins. Along the edge and in the image there are gold-coloured sequins. Star-shaped silver sequins have been sewn all over the sheet.\ The female figure is wearing a wide robe, with a high waist just below the bosom; this indicates an early Empire dress. Published through Europeana; how far this object represents a wider collectible type has not yet been independently verified.
