Fan — Rijksmuseum object AK-RAK-2005-4. Dated by the museum: c. 1795. Museum attribution: anonymous. Material: horn (animal material). Museum description: The fan consists of two guards and (now) 15 sticks; at least two sticks are missing and one guard has been repaired with a section of a stick. On the sticks, figures and pavilions against a background of carved pierced vertical lines. The scenes on the sticks are self-contained, but together they nevertheless form a logical whole. The fan is carved in such a way that it can be viewed from both sides. Centrally, a horizontal oval with the initials 'DWR'. In the tips above the ribbon, flowering plants, sometimes with a bird or figures near a tree. The guards are carved in high relief: tendrils with birds, merging at the top into figures under trees.
