Record status
Individual type · partial
Period
1918
This German emergency money (Notgeld) token from 1918 was issued in Thale am Harz. Struck from iron sheet metal, the piece is finished with an enamel coating. It features a circular design with a central hole.
The obverse displays the city name "Thale a/Harz" arched across the top, above the denomination "20" and "Mark," with a small star situated on either side of the denomination. The reverse depicts a wild man holding a tree trunk in his left hand. The token measures 31 mm in diameter and has a weight of 3.2 grams. This piece represents a characteristic example of the local currency issued during the economic instability of the era.
The enamel application provides a distinct aesthetic, though the piece shows a small area of enamel damage between the letters "l" and "e" in the word "Thale".
