Carved German meerschaum tobacco pipe with crown motif

DocumentedSupported by at least one credible specialist source.

Record status

Individual type · partial

This collectible German-style pipe is crafted from carved meerschaum, a soft white mineral often used in historical pipe making. The pipe body features detailed relief carvings, including floral or acanthus-leaf motifs at the top and figural scenes, possibly depicting individuals with shields on the side.

The piece is fitted with metal hardware, including a hinged, crown-shaped metal cover on the tobacco chamber, which is connected to the stem area by a small metal chain. This type of pipe, often referred to as a stummel, is designed for use with a separate stem that is currently missing from this example. The object measures approximately 6 inches by 6 inches by 2.25 inches. As a decorative and functional antique item, the meerschaum exhibits a warm patina consistent with its material and construction.

Please note that the original stem is absent, and the item is sold in its current as-is condition.
