Obverse: Laureate head of the sibyl Herophile three quarter facing right. Reverse: Sphinx seated right. Legend: ΓΕΡ. Historical context

This bronze coin was issued by the city of Gergis in Troas during the Classical Period, dated c. 350–300 BC. The obverse depicts the sibyl Herophile. The Hellespontine Sibyl, also known as the Trojan Sibyl, was born near the small town of Gergis, where a collection of sibylline prophecies was kept in the temple of Apollo.
