Historical context
This coin was struck by the city of Kallatis, an ancient port on the Black Sea coast located in the Roman province of Moesia Inferior. Issuing occurred during the Roman Imperial Period under Gordian III, who served as Roman emperor from 238 to 244. Gordian had become the second-youngest sole ruler of the united Roman Empire in 238 at 13 years of age.
