This bronze coin was struck between AD 244 and 249 at Marcianopolis, an ancient Greek and Roman capital city in Moesia Inferior located at the site of modern-day Devnya, Bulgaria. It was issued under Roman Emperor Philip the Arab, who reigned from 244 until 249 following the death of Gordian III. The coin features Philip alongside his wife, the Roman empress Marcia Otacilia Severa, who shared in his five-year imperial reign.
