Struck at ancient Callatis (Kallatis) on the Black Sea coast in Moesia inferior, this civic bronze coin dates to AD 244–249 during the reign of Roman Emperor Philip the Arab (Marcus Julius Philippus). Philip ruled from 244 until his death in 249 following defeat at Verona. The obverse features his wife, Marcia Otacilia Severa, who was Roman empress during his five-year reign.
