Historical context
Herennius Etruscus was elevated to Caesar in 250 under his father Decius, who had been proclaimed emperor in Moesia and Pannonia in 249 before defeating Philip. Etruscus ruled briefly as joint emperor in 251 until both father and son were killed fighting the Goths at the Battle of Abritus. This civic coin was struck in AD 250–251 at Viminacium, a major military camp and capital of Moesia Superior in modern Serbia.
