Historical context

Assos was an ancient Greek city located on the southern side of the Troad in modern Turkey, situated on the Aegean coast of the Adramyttian Gulf. Trajan served as Roman emperor from 98 to 117. This civic coin was struck under Trajan's reign and depicts Pompeia Plotina, who served as Roman empress alongside Trajan from 98 to 117.
