Historical context
Alexandria Troas was an ancient Greek city situated on the Aegean Sea in the Troad, an area near the northern tip of western Turkey. During the Roman Imperial Period, this civic mint produced coinage under Commodus, who ruled as Roman emperor from 177 to 192. First serving as nominal co-emperor under his father Marcus Aurelius, Commodus ruled alone from 180 until his assassination in 192.
