Historical context
Zeleia was an ancient town in the Troad, situated at the foot of Mount Ida along the river Aesepus in northwestern Anatolia. Mentioned in the Iliad as aiding Troy during the Trojan War, the town later served as the headquarters of the Persian army before the Battle of the Granicus in May 334 BCE, where Persian satraps held a council to confront Alexander the Great. This bronze coin was struck by the city during the Classical to Hellenistic period, dated to c. 350–300 BC.
