Historical context
Dionysopolis was a city located in Moesia inferior, a territory south of the Danube River that encompassed Northern Bulgaria, Northern Dobruja and parts of southern Ukraine. During the Hellenistic period in the 2nd century BC, the city produced this civic bronze coinage displaying the head of Dionysus.
