Historical context

Neandreia was a Greek city located in the south-west of the Troad region in Anatolia, on the site of Çığrı Dağ. The location was first identified as Neandreia by Frank Calvert in 1865 and Joseph Thacher Clarke in 1886, and was later excavated by Robert Koldewey in 1889. The settlement was also historically recorded under variations such as Neandrium, Neandrion, Neandros, and Leandreia.
