Hemiobol in silver struck at Lamponeia in Troas, dated c. 405–400 BC. Corpus Nummorum, the online type corpus of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, records it as CN type 21209 (period: Classical Period; issuing authority type: city).

Obverse: Head of bearded Dionysus, right, wearing ivy wreath. Reverse: Bull's head facing. Legend: ΛΑΜ. Measured specimens give a mean weight of 0.37 g (from 1 recorded specimen) and a diameter of 9.3 mm (from 1 recorded specimen). The corpus assigns the type to the reduced Chian weight standard.

Historical context

Lamponeia, also known as Lamponia, Lamponium or Lamponion, was an Aeolian city situated on the southern coast of the Troad region of Anatolia. Its archaeological remains lie above the village of Kozlu in the Ayvacık district of Çanakkale Province in modern Turkey. During the Classical Period, the city operated as an autonomous issuing authority, striking silver civic coinage around 405–400 BC.
