This bronze coin was issued by the civic authorities of Skepsis, an ancient settlement in the Troad, Asia Minor, situated near modern Bayramiç in Turkey. Struck during the Roman Imperial Period between AD 193 and 217, it dates to the era of Lucius Septimius Severus, who served as Roman emperor from 193 until 211 after seizing power during the Year of the Five Emperors following the death of Pertinax.
