Historical context

Alexandria Troas was an ancient Greek city located in the Troad on the Aegean Sea, situated south of Tenedos. Under the Severan dynasty, Caracalla was proclaimed co-emperor by his father, Septimius Severus, in 198 and ruled until his assassination in 217, initially alongside his father and later ruling alone after 211. This civic bronze issue was struck at Alexandria Troas during Caracalla's imperial reign between AD 198 and 217.
