Septimius Severus ruled as Roman emperor from 193 to 211, securing supreme authority after the death of Pertinax during the Year of the Five Emperors. This civic bronze issue was struck for Dionysopolis in Moesia Inferior, a Roman province situated south of the Danube River in the Haemus Peninsula. Severus reigned alongside his elder son Caracalla from 198 and his younger son Geta from 209.
