Dupondius in bronze struck at Ilion in Troas under Caracalla, dated AD 198–210. Corpus Nummorum, the online type corpus of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, records it as CN type 22834 (period: Roman Imperial Period; issuing authority type: city).

Obverse: Laureate bust of youthful Caracalla, right, wearing cuirass and paludamentum. Legend: ΑV ΚΑΙ Μ ΑV ΑΝΤΩΝΙΝΟ. Reverse: To left, cult image of Athena Ilias on a pedestal, right; before her, Ilos standing left, holding phiale over lighted altar. Legend: ΙΛΙЄΩΝ ΙΛΟϹ. Measured specimens give a mean weight of 9.39 g (mean of 7 recorded specimens) and a diameter of 26–28 mm (from 8 recorded specimens). Historical context

Caracalla was Roman emperor from 198 to 217, initially elevated as co-ruler by his father Septimius Severus before governing as sole emperor from 211 onwards. First introduced as a cast bronze issue during the Roman Republic, the dupondius continued in circulation as a standard coin type across the Roman Empire.
