Historical context

Istros, an ancient Greek colony founded by Milesians on the western coast of the Black Sea, was incorporated into the Roman province of Moesia in the 1st century AD. Lucius Septimius Severus served as Roman emperor from 193 to 211. His younger son, Publius Septimius Geta, was elevated to Augustus alongside his father and elder brother Caracalla in 209, having previously served as Caesar. Geta ruled as emperor alongside them until his murder in December 211, following his father's death earlier that year.
