Historical context

Hamaxitos was an ancient Greek city situated in the south-west of the Troad region of Anatolia, marking the boundary between the Troad and Aeolis. Thought to be an Aeolian colony, its territory—known as Hamaxitia—contained the temple of Apollo Smintheus. The city issued its own civic coinage during the Hellenistic period, reflecting local identity and the worship of Apollo.
